Yea veggies!

After a nearly 8 month long veggie strike Trevor has finally decided that veggies are yummy again. We've been trying all kinds of things lately to get Trevor to eat something other than corndogs, PB & J, oatmeal, fruit, chicken nuggets, and french fries. Oh, and any kind of sweet or cookie I happen to be munching on.

Up until the the last few weeks when presented with anything other than his old favorites he would clamp his mouth shut and refuse to even taste something foreign. It felt like beating our heads against a while. He's really tiny so we need to get more nutrient dense foods into him and plus a little variety would be good for him. I was actually considering consulting with a nutritionist for some ideas.

About a week ago I tried eating in front of him while him while he was in his playroom. I ate with an exaggerated "Yum! This is sooooo good!" And he of course wanted some too, holding out his hand and saying, "more, more, more, more" At first I refused him to make it even that much more special. He REALLY wanted what I was eating. So I shared and he kept coming back for more. So I told him, "lets go get in your chair and you can have some more" and it worked!!!

I still hadn't had much luck getting him to eat veggies unless they were really tiny and hidden. The other night we had chicken terriaki (sp?) stir fry and I thought no way would he even try it. Travis did the same as I had the night before and he ate it and kept coming back for more! He ate almost all of the veggies on his tray including peas, beans, and carrots!

Last night he ate all of a taco/rice casserole and even wanted 2nds! Today I gave him green beens to eat before I gave him his peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. He at first said "more more more" as in he wanted something else. Like... are you kidding mom? What's with this crap? But he tasted a few and then proceeded to eat them all! Gosh I hope he keeps it up! Now if he would just start using utensils. He tries but then gives up and uses his hands. Thus he makes a huge mess when he eats anything other than "finger food."

Life will be so much easier when he eats with a spoon! But I'll take this victory as a first step. :o)
