Through my sadness today Trevor managed to make my smile in how he found humor in the smallest things.
Things that made him laugh today:
* Watching out the window and watching either squirrels play or the leaves dance, I'm not sure which.
* When I was feeding him breakfast and drumming my fingers on his tray. He laughed and did the same.
* We went out for dinner at Perkins tonight and there was a lady with 4 really bratty kids acting up. Trevor laughed hysterically at them. Maybe he thought they were acting like monkeys. (we told him, "if you ever act like that, you won't ever go a public place to eat!"
* Playing ball with a big huge inflated ball that he loves. He thinks it's really funny when we bounce it off of his head.
* Dancing around the room with daddy. He loves to dance and sing! Especially when we pick him up and dance and sing with him in our arms.
* He has this little book that has holes in the pages, it's a texture book. He loves to look at that book. He was laying on his back looking at the pages and I stuck my fingers through the hole. He thought that was pretty funny. He thought it was even funnier when I tickled him through the hole in the book.
* He goes crazy when Travis bounces up and down on his computer chair like a crazy man. The chair is really old and squeaky. Trevor will laugh so hard he can't stand up. This can go on for at least 15 minutes. He'll walk away and then come back laughing and bouncing up and down as if to say, "do it again!" Trav will start bouncing and it starts all over.
*He has this funny little habit of sometimes crawling around the floor with his head down. He will crawl that way till something blocks his path, laughs, then goes off in another direction. It's really funny. I've tried to get it on camera or video but of course everytime I pull out either, he stops and wants to grab the camera.
I'm thankfull I had my baby boy to make me smile today!

Sad Day
Today we had to put our dog Kodi to sleep. :o( He's been suffering from siezures for the last 2 years or so and it was a really bad weekend for him. He's had about 15 siezures in the last 48 hours or so. I'm going into alot of detail in this and of course it's not pretty. More for therapy for myself than anything else. So as a little disclaimer, if you don't want all of the details I wouldn't read any further.
I think the first times was the hardest thing I've ever had to witness. He had what was called Grand Mal Siezures. Really, really bad ones. Some of them lasting nearly 5 minutes from start to finish. That first week was a long one. He had them about 3 hours apart like clockwork. The vet doped him up with Phenobarbital and sent us home in hopes that they would stop when the meds kicked in. They didn't, so back we went and the vet doped him up with Valium that made him somewhat of a semi conscious state for about 2 days. The valium I guess in a way can work almost as a "reset button" for the brain and nervous system. I prayed that when he came out of it the siezures would stop and he would be our happy healthy dog again.
About 3 days later he was *nearly* back to himself and the siezures stopped. We continued the Pheno for 6 months 2 times a day, never missing a pill. After a check up the vet was hopeful that since he hadn't had a siezure in 6 months that we should back him off the meds and see what happens. We cut back to 1/2 a pill twice a day, then half a pill once a day and still no siezures. All was well for about 3 weeks if I remember correctly. Then the siezures started up again. So the vet said that Kodi would have to be on 1 pill 2x a day for the rest of his life. We had to be really carefull never to miss a pill.
Long term Pheno use can cause some pretty severe liver damage so we had to routinely monitor the levels in his blood to make sure we weren't causing him harm. There's also a whole bunch of other problems that it could cause from what I understand. He has occasionally had a siezure here or there. And sometimes when we woke up in the morning we would suspect he had one because his bowls would be knocked over or he would be acting oddly. It was something that we had come to terms with and were able to handle.
Fast forward to Saturday, Trav calls me at work and said that Kodi had a siezure. Then about 3 hours later he had another, and another. Gave me flashbacks to the first go around. He was having "cluster siezures" again. Cluster siezures can be very dangerous. His body wouldn't even be recovered from one and he'd start again. After he came out of siezure he was very unpredictable. Sometimes a little snarly and snappy, understandably so. I couldn't blame him. The vet had told us after a siezure there can be temporary blindness and hearing loss due to the lack of blood circulating to the brain. The vet had told us last time that every cluster siezure he has could cause damage.
Trav and I that night had a long talk and came to the conclusion that it was best for Kodi to end his suffering. It was a very tough conclusion to come to but the alternatives were potentially tough choices as well. If we up'd his meds any more it was sure to cause harm to him. He definately suffering. If he was upstairs with us he was whining and pacing the whole time. If he was outside or in the basement he was howling. We also had to consider the potential he had to harm Trevor if he was in the wrong place at the wrong time someday when Kodi came out of a siezure.
I haven't slept much the last 2 nights. I wanted to spend time with Kodi sitting and cuddling with him but all he would do was pace. He wouldn't sit still. :o( We had some valium left over from the first time so we gave him a few doses of valium on sunday. It wasn't enough to knock him out but it seemed to help just a little bit. Sunday evening he didn't have any more but he was still acting odd. Pacing and whining and doing the howling thing. It was erie.
So this morning I made the call to my Vet. He's a wonderful person and was very understanding. I just couldn't keep it together and choke out the words of what was going on. He understood what I meant even though I couldn't bring myself to say it. And he thought that we had made the right decision for Kodi. I told him that I wanted to wait until later that afternoon so that I could spend some time with Kodi today.
We were blessed with a warm, beautiful fall day and spent alot of time outside. He was *almost* back to his usual self which in someways made it harder, and in other ways better. Harder because it made me question if we were doing the right thing. Better because that was more how I wanted to remember him. He chased a rabbit and a squirrel while I was raking leaves. I threw the tennis ball alot for him to fetch. He chewed on a few sticks, played in the leaves, pretty much did all of his favorite things. He ate a rotten green tomato that was left over from our tomato plants. Normally I would have scolded him but I didn't see the point.
We took some pictures, he and Trevor played a little in the leaves. Trav gave him a big hunk of ham which normally would not have been something he would have gotten to eat. He got tons of treats and of course tons of hugs and kisses from me. I'm so glad it was a nice day.
When it was time to go I leashed him up and as always he picked up his leash and carried it in his mouth. He has done that ever time I've ever leashed him ever since the first time I took him for a walk when he was just a puppy. He was happy to go in the van which of course made me sad. Like any dog, he loves a car ride, no matter what the trip. The whole way there he sat right beside me and was such a good boy. Usually he tries to run around the car like crazy, but he was strangely mellow. I imagine he was sensing my mood.
Our vets office has a really nice little pond with a waterfall and a bench. We sat there for a bit before going in. I had pretty much started to lose it by that point. I'm really thankful that they got us in a room pretty much right away. We gave him a bunch more treats that were in the room. When the vet came in the room he had only kind reassuring words. Neither Trav nor I wanted to be present. Last night I was thinking that I did, that I owed him that to be by his side. And that I wanted to remember him peacefully going to sleep. But after spending the early afternoon with him, I decided that was how I wanted to remember him, bounding joyfully around the yard like he always did.
Walking into the house on the way home carrying his leash and collar in my hands the tags jingled like they always did when he was running around and it rattled me a bit. Walking into the house and it was completely silent, seeing the door to the stairwell left open by my brother in his rush to leave for work. No need to shut it since Kodi was no longer in the basement stairwell where we kept him when we couldn't keep a close eye on him. These things really made it hit home that he was really gone and that I would not see him again. I'm sure over the next few days/weeks alot of things like this will hit me. I'm sure unconsciously I'll think about letting him out, giving him his pill or feeding him.
~Sigh~ I know we made the right decision for him but damn is this tough to deal with. And of course I'm an emotional pregnant girl right now anyway. I have some other stuff to update and maybe I'll be back later tonight to do that, or maybe not. Anyways here's some pictures, puppy pics of Kodi and some taken today.

Baby Movement
For the last 2 weeks I've been feeling flutters. When I'd put my hand on my tummy I couldn't feel it on the outside. Just feel "her" moving around on the inside. It's such a great feeling. I spend alot of time laying on the floor in Trevor's playroom with my hand on my tummy while Trevor plays around me (or on me)
Last night when I first layed down I felt the movement but alot stronger. I could feel the movement for the first on the outside. Trav was in the bathroom brushing his teeth... I was thinking "hurry please" I wanted to share the moment with him. But I couldn't holler for him in fear of waking Trevor. And I didn't want to get up.
Thankfully when he finally came to bed "she" was still moving around. Trav got to feel her for the first time too. It was a great moment. I wish that I had a blog or a journal when prenant with Trevor. Because these moments are ones to be cherished. But, I don't remember how it was with him. :o(
Anyway... it was a great finish to a really sad day. (Problems with my doggie, post to come later on that)
* I use the term "her" for the power of positive thinking. We still don't know if we are having a girl or a boy. But we find out next week!!!

Misc ramblings
So I guess I should post what's been going on around here lately. Last week we were planning on going to a fall festival thing at heritage farms. The weather put a damper on those plans. It was cold and rainy. I was pretty disappointed. They had hay rides and pony rides and all kinds of other fun stuff.
Last week I had my 16 week checkup. All is going well. I lost a few pounds probably due to how sick I had been. Next month is the big ultrasound! Yes, we plan to find out if we're having a girl or a boy. Hopefully it's a girl. I would love to go shopping for some little girl clothes.
Thankfully, I'm starting to feel better. Still not my usual self but at least I'm able to eat and not getting sick all the time. I still feel pretty much exhausted though. That too seems to be getting at least a little bit better. I think I had a touch of the flu on tuesday. I felt really crappy.
Gosh, it's hard to believe that it's almost halloween already. Trevor is going to be tigger. We're not really going trick or treating. But we will go to the mall and do the things they got going on there. I'd like to take him to get pictures taken in his costume if possible. That was what we did last year except the picture thing made us miss all the goings on at the mall because walmart photography was so slow and annoying!!! We never went back there after that experience.
Trevor's been feeling crummy for the last 4 days. Poor babe... he hasn't eaten very good in 4 days! A friend watched him Sunday night so Trav and I could go out for our anniversary. She said he was awful tired and cuddly. LOL, I didn't specify with feeding him that he pretty much feeds himself and so I think she spoon fed him. The funny thing is he really hasn't eaten very well since except for a nibble here and a nibble there. UNLESS, we spoon feed him. Out of desperation the other day we spoon fed him some yummy yougurt and pudding and he gobbled it up, after refusing what was on his tray in front of him. Last night I relented and actually bought a couple of jars of babyfood. Spoonfed him last night and he ate it all. This morning I put cherrio's in front of him and he wouldn't touch them. Until I put them in his mouth or handed them to him one by one. Silly boy! Trav and I joke that my friend spoiled him by feeding him and now he things he's a king or something. But I know he just isn't feeling well. He's been cuddly and clingy all week long.
Hopefully he's past it. He's seeming to feel better and daycare said he ate a good lunch today. Hmmmm maybe I should call and ask if he self fed or spoon fed. I didn't think to ask them. :o)
Other cuteness... Trevor has learned to spin in a circle (kind of) when he's dancing. He tilts his head and hunches up his shoulder to put his ear to his shoulder and then somewhat turns in circles. Then he loses his balance and falls over, laughs, gets up and does it again.
His new favorite game is chase. We run around his play room chasing him. Then we run from him and he chases us. He thinks its really funny and when he "runs" he breathes really loud like he's out of breath, in an exaggerated way.
His other habit he's picked up since he's gotten a stuffy nose is to scrunch up his face, tip his face and breathe in and out through his nose. He does this when we are watching him and he laughs so hard at himself that he will fall over.
And that I think it just about it except for the fact that it's been a really busy week for me at work. I'm getting ready for inventory, have inventory friday, Regional manager visit today, and Saturday I have to work the Cedar rapids store so she can do inventory. Yee haw! I'll be glad when this week is over. My mom's coming to visit Saturday night through monday and we are going to the craft fair at the UNI dome. That should be fun! Hopefully I can convince her to leave Trevor with daddy so I can have some free time. :o)

Ready for winter

I never knew how hard it would be to find a coat for a 1 year old. I've been to 3 stores now and the smallest toddler size I had found til last night was 18mo. And it was HUGE! So I lucked out at Target, they had 1 12month in 1 style. At this point I'm not picky so I got it. It's getting cold and my poor boy needs a coat!
It was so funny when I put it on him when I got home. The sleeves were a little too long. He thought it was pretty funny to run/stumble around flapping his arms like a penguin. I was going to get video cuz it was just too cute. But my camera battery died... grrrrr.
Now I wonder how easy it will be to find a coat that will fit preggo me! So far my leather coat fits but its getting a little snug around the tummy and so I'm sure it won't fit for too much longer. Darn I hate to spend money on a decent coat that I'll only wear for probably 1 season.

Terrible 2's?!?!?!?!
Oh my gosh, Trevor threw a big ol' temper tantrum this evening. Tonight was officially his first time out, after he threw a toy at me. He's had throw himself down on the floor tantrums before but this was the first time he went out of his way to throw something at me. Grrrrrr. I'm not ready for this.
I was going to help him with a lollipop and that was a big mistake. Rather than sticking it in his mouth he wanted to just put his fingers in the sticky mess then wanted to wander around the toy room and get the sticky mess everywhere. I don't think he's ready for them yet. And if he gets another anytime soon he will be in his highchair first. He got pretty torked off when I took it away. He threw himself down in the corner screaming and picking up toys that were near him and tossing them away from him. Then he picked up a block, walked across the room and threw it at me!
He's had a bit of a bad day today. This morning his uncle, Brian, was watching him in his high chair while I ran upstairs. When I came down Brian was saying to him in a nice voice, "no no Trevor, you've got to stay in your chair" Trevor did the lip quiver, sob sob, then WAAAAHHHHH!!!
Now he's at the gate to the computer room crabbing and throwing all of his toys in here.
I had a long day at work and dealt with crabbos all day, I'm not ready to deal with a crabby babe tonight.
~sigh~

Yucko…
Pretty much sums up how I’ve been feeling the last few weeks. My “all day” sickness has not let up in the slightest. Actually it has probably gotten worse. I’ve lost 2 pounds in the last 2 weeks. The worst part is that I’m hungry ALL the time, yet I can’t make myself eat. I have tried nearly everything to tempt my tummy to no avail. Everything I eat turns my stomach. And it is all day long. So I put in a call to my midwife and she called in an RX for Promethazine.
I’ve been taking this med for about 4 days now and today I feel a little better at last. I was able to eat at least a decent lunch and dinner. And no getting sick today. :o) So that’s a start. I’m not holding my breath though. The biggest drawback is that it makes me incredibly tired. The first day I took it was luckily my day off. I slept pretty much off and on all day. I barely even had enough energy to sit at the computer long enough to check my email. And the last 3 days have only been slightly better. So hopefully the tiredness goes away soon and so does my morning sickness. If this doesn’t work she’s got a few other things to try. I just don’t think I can handle another week of being this tired and having to chase after a busy 1year old.
I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that there will be no more babies. Well, at least until Trav is out of school, with a good paying job, and the ability for me to at least cut back to part time hours (if not stay home.) This is just way too much for me to handle. I’m really scared to see what it’s going to be like when I’m 8 months pregnant.
Trevor’s having a bit of a rough week, he’s got bronchitis and a mild ear infection. He coughs a lot at night and constantly sliming me with his yucky nose. Ahhhh the joys of motherhood! He seems to be getting better though. Oh my poor little cranky boy.
Earlier this week (Wednesday I think) we went out and played in the leaves on the deck. He had never done this before and wasn’t too sure at first about the crinkly stuff under his feet. Trav piled them all up around him and threw them up in the air and then he thought that was quite fun. I took a ton of pictures of course but none that I’m completely thrilled with. He was so distracted by the leaves he wouldn’t look at the camera for the most part. And when I was trying to get him concentrating on a leaf he would come running towards me. After awhile he thought we should clean up the deck or something because he started bring me leaves one by one. He also was tossing them between the railings and stuffing them between the deck boards.
Let’s see what else has he done this week? He has just started trying to walk backwards and sideways, he thinks that’s pretty funny. I’m pretty sure he is now saying “Love you” although it sounds more like “uuubbb ewwww” in a cute little sing song voice. I tell him “love you” countless times throughout the day and even if I’m in the other room I’ll holler “love you Trevor” and it seems that is the tone that he is mimicking. And he usually does it when I’m in the other room and smiles when he knows he’s gained my attention.
He has just started trying to dance although it isn’t too coordinated just yet. He mainly just bends his knees and bobs up and down. He also sings when the radio is on, it sounds like he’s yelling though. :o)
That’s about all I can think of for tonight. I’m pretty much brain dead! Anywho… I’m off to bed
