freecycle and misc ramblings

First off... here's the newest link to pictures if you don't make it all the way through my ramblings. Easter pictures and some other pics taken at grandma's
http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=92m1eg5.eqbpra1&x=1&y=-otbwcy

It's been somewhat of a crazy week. My brother moved in on Tuesday and had been crashing on our couch. Today we went to this awesome freecycle event and really cashed in. FreeCycle is the greatest. We got a ton of stuff for free to outfit my brothers room in the basement. We got a desk, couch, bunch of clothes, a ton of books for Trevor in perfect condition, a few toys. Literally a truck load of stuff. Brian even got a bike that's old but in excellent shape.

I love love love freecycle. The recycling nut that I am it was wonderful to see all of the stuff finding new homes that might have ended up in the garbage or who knows where. If anyone is interested in checking out the organization in their neck of the woods the website address is www.freecycle.org. Through exchanges I've given away baby food jars that would have just been recycled, baby stuff, etc. We've gotten a computer monitor, 5 disc DVD player, a ton of baby toys and clothes, etc. We check our email all day long just to see if anything new is coming through.

Anyways... Trevor has 2 teeth popping up and man is he crabby, and only wants his mama it seems. This makes for a very tired mama that doesn't get anything done.

He enjoyed being out today too... it really was a beautiful day. I carried him around in his baby carrier that I got today. It was nice not having to mess with the stroller. He liked being carried; he kicked his feet, and "chatted" with people, and feel asleep nestled in the carrier after awhile.
Other news on the "home front..." Trevor is crawling now and man is he getting quick. We can't turn our back on him for a second. He really seems to enjoy having his uncle Brian around.
Anyways... mama duty calls... Trevor just woke up from his nap and I'm sure he will want to be held for the rest of the night, he's been really clingy/crabby the last few days.

Dumb Laws

Current mood: amused

I thought this site was pretty funny...
www.dumblaws.com
This is what I found about Iowa Laws
A man with a moustache may never kiss a woman in public.
One-armed piano players must perform for free.
Kisses may last for no more than five minutes.
Ministers must obtain a permit to carry their liquor across state lines.
Doctors who treat a person with gonorrhea must report this to the local board of health and include the disease's "probable origin".

Local laws:

Cedar Rapids -It is illegal to read persons? palms in the city limits.

Dubuque -Any hotel in the city limits must have a water bucket and a hitching post in front of the building.

Fort Madison (this one is the best) -The fire department is required to practice fire fighting for fifteen minutes before attending a fire.

Indianola - The "Ice Cream Man" and his truck are banned. ( I wonder what the ice cream man did???)

Marshalltown - Horses are forbidden to eat fire hydrants. (WTF???? In what reality are horses known to eat fire hydrants???)

Mount Vernon - One must obtain written permission from the City Council before throwing bricks into a highway. (Gee... do you think they're likely to give you permission?)

And I can't resist sharing some of the funniest from other states...

Cali - it is illegal to molest butterflies.
Persons classified as "ugly" may not walk down any street.
animals are banned from mating publicly within 1, 500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship.
TX - A recently passed anticrime law requires criminals to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed. (Ummm sure. So if they give notice does that make it legal?)
It is illegal to sell one's eye.
It is illegal to take more than three sips of beer at a time while standing.

NE - If a child burps during church, his parent may be arrested

Illinois--One may not pee in his neighbor's mouth. (WOW)
FL - -You may not fart in a public place after 6 P.-It is considered an offense to shower naked.-You are not allowed to break more than three dishes per day, or chip the edges of more than four cups and/or saucers.
Montana ~It is illegal to have a sheep in the cab of your truck without a chaperone. (ummmm yuck!)
NY -
It is against the law to throw a ball at someone's head for fun.The penalty for jumping off a building is death.ummm ok... I wonder how many have been dealt with that punishment!
A person may not walk around on Sundays with an ice cream cone in his/her pocket. (what kind of moron would put an ice cream cone in their pocket anyway?)While riding in an elevator, one must talk to no one, and fold his hands while looking toward the door.Slippers are not to be worn after 10:00 P.

Canada -
You may not pay for a fifty-cent item with only pennies.Citizens may not publicly remove bandagesThe city is classified as a no-pee zoneIt is illegal to eat ice-cream on Bank Street on a Sunday. You can't drag a dead horse down Yonge Street on a Sunday.Michigan - A woman isn't allowed to cut her own hair without her husband's permission (man would I be in trouble if I lived in MI!)

And it seems many states have laws that restrict what goes on in the bedroom... such as snoring, sex toys, sex positions, etc.

I thought you all could use a good laugh.

Our boy is growing up

Trevor is getting soooo big so fast! I was just holding a friends newborn baby a few days ago. It made me look at Trevor and think, holy cow... how is it that he is 7 months old. I really don't know where the time has gone. On one hand it seems like only just yesterday we were bringing him home. But on the other hand... I feel like he's been a part of our life forever. It's almost hard to think about what life was like before he was a part of our family!

I've been terrible about updating his milestones on here. You should see his baby book, it's even worse! But I've got tons of pictures. I've taken pictures of EVERY milestone he's reached and luckily when I upload the pictures, it tells me the exact day and time the picture was taken. So one of these days I'll have to get moving on his baby book. Yeah, that will happen.

So... what's new in T land you ask??? Well sooo much has been going on since my last post on here. Trevor graduated from scooting on his tummy to crawling. He still scoots if he wants to get somewhere fast. And man oh man is he fast. He's getting quicker at crawling but he still needs some work.

He's turning into quite the adventurer... he loves to climb and pull up on everything. The gates, his crib, the big toys, mom and dad, couch. You name it... he'll try to climb it. He falls a lot and sometimes he cries, but he's really quite brave.

He loooooves to jump and bounce. He has a jumperoo that Grandma H got him before he was born and he loves that thing! He would probably bounce all day if he could. He also loves his Baby Einstein videos. When we put one of those in he is completely riveted to the TV. The place could be burning down around him and he probably wouldn't pry his eyes off the TV screen.

He went to stay the night at Grandma B's for my birthday and watched his movies and cartoons on the BIG screen and he loved it! He also loves puppets, probably that's why he loves the Einstein videos so much. We picked up a puppet today and he giggled like a crazy boy for the longest time today.

Currently favorites are:
Toys - still the leapfrog activity station, little frog stuffed toy, man that thing makes him laugh, little sassy car, fisher price inflated ball thing that Trav got him. He's starting to like soft toys a lot more these days.

Food- Peaches are his favorite. He loves to eat. The only thing so far that he doesn't like is peas.

Trevor is starting to eat little bits and pieces of our meals. He likes pizza! He's also eating Gerber puffs and zwieback toast. What a mess it makes!

Well... it's late and I should be hitting the sack. Here's a few newish pictures.

Mean people piss me off

Current mood: aggravated
Today was all and all an irritating day based solely on a single comment from my regional manager. Mind you that it isn't only this comment that angers me... but a culmination of all the shitty things he's said and done in the whole 6 months or so that he's been my boss. He's a dick plain and simple. He acts like a nice guy in group settings and such but one on one he's some days he's Satan in a Born-Again-Christian-Suit. Not meaning anything against Christians, I'm one myself. However, if you are going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk. I could go on and on about all of the really crappy things he's done in the 6 months or so that I've known him, but my fingers would get too sore.

Last month I drove 6 hours to this stupid ass regional meeting with the director of Human Resources for his "new manager assimilation." It's purpose was to get us all going down the path of working together as a team and accepting him as our manager. We provided feedback, and from the sounds of it, not so nice feedback. I went into the meeting disliking him but keeping an open mind. I left the meeting hoping that I had judged him too quickly and optimistic that his demeanor would change.

ummmm... not so much. Walk into work and get a message to call him, so I did. Turns out a customer complained about our service and said they'd never shop again. The whole basis of complaint was that said customer waited on Friday while I helped a few other customers and my other associate keyed in her orders so she could leave. (she was 45 minutes late beyond her scheduled time off already, lives 45 minutes away, and there were tornado watches with a nasty storm on the way) I don't blame her for wanting to bust out of there, some days it's impossible to get out the door even close to your scheduled time off. Seems the customer felt that her presence in the store took precedence over all other happenings. I even explained to her the situation and why she was not being helped by my associate, hoping to at least get a little understanding, if not a little sympathy. If I was in her position I might have been a little frustrated with waiting but definitely would have understood why and not freaked out about it.

Mind you we told her when she called to say she was coming to pick up her glasses that she really should set an appointment and the time she was coming in was already booked solid. Ohhhh no, she was coming to get her glasses at that moment, hell or high water!
Her other gripe was that another day she came and was told that she would have to come back a half hour later because we were closing for lunch... We often close for lunch when only one person is working on slow days. We are, ya know, legally entitled to a break. But we have NEVER told a customer that they would have to come back later while we walk out the door. We wait til the store is clear put up our sign and book out the door. If a customer happens to come in as we are leaving we say something like... "oh you just barely caught me, I was just getting ready to go to lunch" And either the customer will say... Oh I'll come back later or we stay and help that customer and hope that all hell doesn't break lose and that we miss our break that day, which happens all the time.

Well, said customer when I was fitting her glasses let me have it and said how terrible our service was, on and on. I was nice, I empathized, I bit my tongue, apologized for her having to wait, again explained the situation, and then sent her on her not-so-merry way.

Fast-forward to today, my usual day off. My boss tells me what she said which was exactly what she told me. I explained to him the reason the customer waited and that we would not have told the customer we were going to lunch, that possibly we were already on lunch and an associate in the main store told her that we would not be back until 2, which is quite possible.
He went on a bit about customer service. Then he asked me, "What do you think had to say about this?" I said, "I don't know." I'm not a mind reader. I truly don't know what she had to say. So he repeated himself and I repeated myself. Then the f'r says, :"I don't know means I don't care." Ummmm noooo... I don't know means I don't know. If I intended to say I don't care, I would have said I don't care.

was my boss before him and she got promoted and hired him. I like her, I respect her, and she respected me. She could be a hard ass, and wasn't very personable. But she spoke to others with respect and courtesy. And very honestly I do care what she might have said. We don't have complaints very often, and in my reviews written by her I have always excelled in customer service.

So I don't really remember what was said after that, I pretty much tuned him out. So I think I'm going to call her and ask what she had to say about it, since A-hole never told me what she thought about it. And while I'm at it, I might voice some frustration. I'm not a tattle tale... and I don't like confrontation. But somethings got to give before I fly off the handle at him and lose my job. Damn I hate that man!!! And I really do get along with most people. There are many people that I dislike (hehehehe mainly rude customers) But very few people in this world that I can really say I hate. But that jerk is at the top of the list.

I'm making this private because I know that there's another manager on here that has her head up his ass on a daily basis (and she's in my dislike but tolerate category) And she'd probably tattle on me. Plus, I don't want just anybody knowing all the gorey details of my life.

Wowzer, I really didn't intend to ramble on like this. But somehow it's therapeutic. And if you stuck through to the end, you've got more patience than I... I probably would have skipped over it myself if I didn't write it!

Ya got anything to add "G?" I'm sure you do!

Oh what a night!

Oh what a night!

Current mood: nauseated

Last night my we celebrated my ~ahem~ 29th birthday in style. It was a great time and I got a ton of pictures and even some video to prove it. I have no idea how much I had to drink but more than I have in a REALLY long time. I was feeling no pain that is for sure. Today... ummm... I'm feeling some pain. Before we left last night I was running through my house in the dark, smashed my knee on the coffee table and then managed to trip over some toys in our dining room aka Trevor's "play room" and about broke my neck. The smashed knee and uncomfortable mary janes I wore last night didn't slow me down but today I'm really not moving so fast.

I had more exercise in the first 10 minutes of dancing than I've had in probably the last few years combined. It's probably going to take a few days for me to recover! Makes me think I need to get my but in gear and exercise more!

So Friday night was a really bad night for Trevor sleep wise, which meant little sleep for me. Add to that a really late night last night, Daylight savings time so 1 less hour of sleep, having to get up at 8:00 to go to a lamo brunch meeting for work, waiting for what seemed like an eternity before they served coffee made for really sleepy girl during said meeting. Ohhhh and I almost forgot, add to that the wonderful THUNDERSTORM that started about 10 minutes after we went to bed. I hate storms!

Why, oh why did they have to schedule this meeting the day after my birthday and on a Sunday morning no less. Next year I'm going to veto any meeting near my birthday and definitely in the morning.

Thank you Travis for planning this for me and being a good sport for putting up with the picture taking and my constantly trying to drag you out to the dance floor. Tiana... So glad you came, it wouldn't have been the same without you! It's been way too long since we partied! Gretchie... So glad you were able to sneak away from Tony's party for a bit to hang. Ed (if you ever get a damn space and read this) as always.... it was a blast having you around. Rich... It was nice to meet you! You're pretty cool to hang with! Hope to see you soon.

We have to do this again soon! And at last... as promised here is the pictures. (I hope this works) I'll try and figure out how to get the video up later. Damn, I'm still laughing about those 2 chicks!!!
