Halloween

We did Trick or Treating at the mall where I work. Trevor enjoyed it more this year. At first when given the candy he didn't want to put it in the bag and would plop down on the floor right there to try and eat it. And throw a fit when we'd try to get him to stand up and put the candy in the bag. He wouldn't say trick or treat and some of the people in costumes scared him. Towards the end he enjoyed putting the candy handed to him in the bag.

Jayden just loved all the attention. Of all of the kids there we were surprised that she was the only clown. I must say that her costume looked so much better on than I thought it would. I thought it was kind of cheap when I bought it but it was on sale! She even kept her hat on the whole time. Trevor wouldn't even keep his bumblebee hood on for a second for me to get a decent picture.

Towards the end he got a little cranky but that was to be expected. There were a few fits thrown on the floor and pretty much blocked all the traffic behind us. But overall I think he enjoyed himself. After Trick or Treating he played in the little playground area in the mall and we shared a cookie.

How is it that...

baby cereal when catapulted via spoon with baby fingers can launch over 6 feet across the room and splatter all over the door, and land in mommies hair but not get on the fingers of the baby? Jayden has this lovely new habit of grabbing the spoon. I think she's trying to feed herself. Either that or I'm not moving quick enough for her. She likes to eat!

Mr personality

Trevor's picking up language right and left and learning to do things more independently these days so here's a few samplings of things he's been doing the last few weeks.

Trevor's new thing is to repeat the last word you say sounding like a question. Such as tonight:
"Trevor, do you want a sandwich or macaroni?"
"Roni?"
"Trevor do you want macaroni or a sandwich?"
"which?"
For dessert I gave him the option of yogurt and fruit, in that order. Of course he said fruit. I gave him fruit and he threw a fit, turned out he wanted yogurt. Gah!! Then later,
"Trevor, do you want to watch elmo or blue?"
"Blue?"
"Trevor, do you want to watch Blue or Elmo?"
"Elmo!?" I guess we have to watch for the exclamation when we ask it both ways.

Last week I hear him saying "sauce" over and over. Occassionally "Yea sauce!!" I'm thinking what the heck is he talking about, he better not have gotten in any kind of sauce. I just checked him and he's putting my socks (ahhh sauce = socks) on and off his feet and saying "yea did it!" He seems to like my socks. As he's trying to put them on his feet, Jayden is trying to eat them. Yucko. At least they weren't too nasty, I only wore them for an hour this morning.

Tonight he wouldn't eat his dinner so Travis was doing the airplane thing to entice him to eat. He was flying the fork all over the kitchen with food on it and telling Trevor, "open wide, coming in for a landing." He thought that was fun for awhile and then wised up to us and it was game over. It didn't stop him from using his fork as an airplane though.

Another funny thing he does is when I'm having a conversation with him when he's been naughty or cranky he'll say all serious, "ok ok, I know" In a tone that says stop the lecture and cut to the chase. And he talks to elmo on the "potty time" video. He'll say, "mmm hmmm mmm hmm, Ok ok I know."

Contests!!!

Here's some more cool stuff I'd love to win:

Support breast cancer awareness... Loving all the pink and companies raisng money for breast cancer research. Here's a camera.

There's also a drawing for bedcovers

Please pry my fingers off the keyboard!!!

I'm blog surfing tonight. The whole dyson contest thing caused me to find all kinds of fun blogs that I had never seen before. Here's a few worth mentioning...

Mrs. Flinger- Hilarious post about bumbo sets recall. Don't click if you are offended by the "f-bomb" She has a really fitting acronym for it!

5minutesformom - She has a link with a bunch of contests. Woo hoo... gotta love contests

This is one of my favorites. I don't crochet anymore but their posts make me fall out of my chair! What would possess someone to make this. And even worse WEAR it!

I didn't realize you could actually make money blogging. I don't think I want to turn my little nook on the net into an advertisement though. I'm leaning towards the anti-consumerism "movement." LOL, at least until hubby has a new job. :o) Even then though I'll still be drawn to thrift stores and consignment stores. If I need new furniture I'm sure I'll be shopping antique stores. Buying used/reusing/recycling is much better for the environment than buying new. Plus... they don't make things like they used to!

Na na na na... I'm gonna win!

Pink Dyson Vaccuum Giveaway by the Domestic Diva

Being that I work at *insert-retail-chain-name-here* everyday I wander past the vacs and drool. Our vac is so old it spits out more dirt than it picks up. And this one is so so purdy! I fell in love with the purple one when I used it a few weeks ago at work. But pink is even better! Though, hubby I'm sure would refuse to vacuum with a pink vac. I suppose that's a sacrifice I will have to make when I win this beauty.

Thanks to aniowamom for sharing the link. I ~suppose~ I'll share the link to thedomesticdiva so you can enter too if you wish. Your efforts are futile though, cuz I'm gonna win! Neener neener neeeeener!

First Art Project from Daycare

Though Trevor colors a lot we haven't done any "art projects." He got to do his first at daycare. Bad mommy! He was really proud of his pumpkin he finger painted.

I don't know what to do

Jayden is really having difficulty with sleeping these days. She fights sleep and then when she conks out in our arms she wakes the second we put her down and freaks out. She used to sleep so good in her bassinet but now she is getting to big for it and we're trying to transition her into her crib for fear she's going to fall out of the bassinet.

With Trevor we co-slept until he was about a year. Jayden doesn't do well with co-sleeping. She kicks, squirms and is generally restless in her sleep. So I nurse her in bed and then when she's sleeping I stick her in her bassinet and she'll sleep for the good part of the night. But now I'm waking to her pulling up on the sides of it. So what's a mamma to do? I've tried nursing her to sleep and then taking her to her crib but then she wakes up the minute I lay her in her crib.

So at the moment I'm trying to let her cry it out. It breaks my heart to listen to her cry. Though screaming is more like it. I'm going in about every 5 minutes or so. She's so hysterical she doesn't even stop when I'm trying to consol her by rubbing her head and tummy. I don't know what to do. This is by far the hardest part so far with her. :o(

Ahhh, silence! For the moment she has stopped crying. I really hope she has fallen asleep. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. We let Trevor CIO but when he was much older.

Poor buddy!

Trevor's been running a fever for the last three days. I took him to the doctor and he's got an ear infection. He's been terribly cranky and pretty much like static cling the last few days. Hopefully the antiboitics kick it soon.

Sitting up and a little dancin'

Jayden is sitting up for the first time for longer than a few seconds. We got Trevor a new elmo video about potty training. They both thought the tune was a little catchy I guess because they both started dancing. She had been sitting up for a couple of minutes before I started taking the video. She can't get into sitting position yet, she has to be put there.

Rocker Girl

Last night I got this new leapfrog guitar that plays tunes and animal songs. Trevor seemed to enjoy it while we were shopping and it teaches animal sounds and Spanish. Jayden is all over that toy and Trevor doesn't want to share so it's made for an interesting evening. He whines when she touches it and she shrieks when he takes it away. Ahhh let the sibling rivalry begin!

But she was doing this head bob thing when the tune would play. At first I thought it was coincidence because she does that from time to time. But I noticed she does it when the tune comes on the guitar. I happened to get it on video!

It's all about you when you're two

Trevor has been extremely cranky and defiant today. It was a struggle to get him to eat and put his toys away before bed. Before going up to bed Travis was trying to get him to say I love you, or rather "I U" in Trevor-speak. He always does this and says it happily in a sing song voice. Travis asked, "Do you love Mommy?" He said, "Ummmm no." Travis asked, "Do you love Daddy?" He said, "Ummmm no." Travis asked, "Do you love your sister?" He looked in at Jayden and said, "Ummm no." Travis asked, "Who do you love?" And Trevor said, "Me!"

Travis and I were a bit dumbfounded as we didn't quite expect that as an answer and he's never referred to himself as me before. The "ummm no" stuff was no big deal as that's pretty much what you get half the time when you ask him most anything. LOL, I wonder if he actually knows what he said.

Thankful Thursdays # 1

I read this article on msn.com about "thinking happy" and the part that struck me the most was this:

2. THEY EXPRESS GRATITUDE (WITHIN REASON)
Buoy your spirits by recording happy events on paper, your computer, or a PDA. People who write about all the things they are thankful for are optimistic about the upcoming week and more satisfied overall with their lives, according to a University of California, Davis, study. They also feel physically stronger.
"It's hard to be bitter and mad when you're feeling grateful," says Sonja Lyubomirsky, PhD, author of the upcoming book, "The How of Happiness: A Scientific Approach to Getting the Life You Want." But don't overdo it. Women who kept a gratitude journal only once a week got a bigger boost in happiness than those asked to record their good fortune three times a week. Find the frequency that works for you - giving thanks shouldn't feel like a chore.

I considered starting a gratitude journal awhile ago but it seemed like a chore so I thought this I could handle. Soooo I'm going to attempt making every Thursday "thankful Thursday" Now since I'm really anal about keeping my posts in sequential order and I seem to get behind this will either motivate me to keep up or I'll have to save it as a draft and post in sequence. :o) Hopefully it will be the former instead of the latter.

So here is "Thankful Thursday" installment number 1.

I am thankful that in light of the fact that chances are I won't have a day off until a week from next Wednesday (14 days straight of work) that Gretchen gave me most of the day off today. I came in at 11 and was off by 2. :o) She even offered to key in my orders so I could leave as soon as we got past our busiest time of the day.

I pondered coming home and doing some housework since I won't have much time for any of that the next 2 weeks. But I decided to skip it. So I'm extra thankful that I had the time today to take a nap when the kiddos did, do some blogging, and hopefully if Trevor will eat his dinner and not be too terribly cranky I'm going to take him with me to target and do some shopping.

Ahhhh what a glorious day. All of this and usually Thursday is the busiest work day for me.

Another picky eater?

Gosh I hope not! I thought that cereal was a struggle because of the new texture. The Doctor gave the go ahead to try real solids. First up was sweet potatos and it was a no go. I had sweet potatos on my glasses and in my hair from her spitting them back out. I think the amount that she actually swallowed was pretty miniscule. She's pretty good at clamping her mouth shut and turning her head in all directions to avoid the spoon. Feeding her is like trying to pin jello to the wall, and probably about as messy!

I'm not ready for this

Jayden has become super mobile in the last few days. She has found herself in places she has not gotten to on her own steam. She's also trying to get up on her hands and knees. She's going to be crawling soon. But in the mean time she's super quick!

Like the computer room

And the kitchen while Trevor is eating dinner

Oh and she's getting really good at sitting up on her own. She's still a little wobbly and she needs help getting into position.

Jayden 6 Months checkup

Jayden's 6 month check was today and wowzers she's a big girl. The doctor said she should be a poster child for breastfeeding. :o) Here's her stats:

Height 26 3/4" (90%)
Weight 18 lb 7 oz (90%)
Head 42.5 cm (90%)

We were there for a long time because Trevor had a mystery rash we wanted to get looked at while we were there and they had to work him in. It was soooo much fun to entertain a 2 year old while trying to hold a squirming baby. They gave him crayons and he had more fun with the tin they came in than using them for what they are for. (See video at and of the post)

They both got tortured a bit: throat culture and flu shot for Trevor and 3 shots for Jayden. Jayden cried big crocodile tears after her shots for a minute but after a quick nursie all was forgotten. Trevor was mad at the nurses after the throat culture. He hid behind the examining table when they came back in to give him the shots. I had to pull him out. He's probably scarred from the last time we were there and they drew his blood!

When were on the way out the door the nurse who poked him walked by and he scowled at her big time. LOL, I didn't recognize her but he sure did and she asked him, "are you still mad at me?" Then he turned away from her. They gave him a yummy juice box. LOL, I had never given him one before so he wasn't quite sure what to do with it. He thought it was pretty cool though when he realized he could squeeze the box and shoot juice everywhere. Ack sticky mess everywhere.

We have to go back in 30 days for flu booster shots. Trevor's mystery rash she thinks is an allergic reaction to who knows what so he was ok to go to day care. And our pediatrician who we adore gave me the news that October 31st is her last day and she will be taking a position at U of I. "Travis asked what is it with you and scaring away doctors????" So far since Trevor was born both my OB's and now our pediatrician? And all three were my favorites of doctors. ~Sigh~

Tonight was fun in our house as both kiddos were cranky after the shots and Trevor has been under the weather for the last few days. He snuggled up on the floor with my boppy and a blanket and watched the entire cars movie from start to finish pretty much without moving. That's a first.

Taking less for granted

I was reading on this blog about a really sad story of a baby born with Trisomy 18, a fatal birth defect. I was reading this as Jayden lay sleeping in my arms. I wasn't so quick to put her down today. Reading about this family's struggle makes me have even more appreciation for what I've been given and hug my babies just a little bit tighter. Please pray for the Farley family as they struggle with the loss of their daughter Copeland.

Sleeping Beauty

I took this picture of Jayden today while she napped in my arms. I couldn't bear to put her down.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
She still has the angel kisses birthmarks on her eyelids though they have faded quite a bit you can mostly only see them when her eyes are closed. Angel kisses are a usually temporary birth mark like a stork bite, only on the eyelids.

She is quite the bedhog. If I'm not careful she'll have me on the edge of the bed by morning. most nights though she seems to prefer sleeping in her bassinet.

And since we're talking sleeping I have to throw in a picture of the kids in their jammies taken last week.
