Big bad scary potty

For awhile now we've been introducing Trevor to potty training. We bought a spiffy new potty chair, Fisher-Price Royal Step Potty, that plays a little jingle when you tinkle. I thought Trevor would like it and that the music would be a positive reinforcement. Oh it was reinforcement alright.

Note to self When starting to potty train Jayden if using a potty that make noise I shall put water in the potty first to demonstrate the music thing. Now one might think this is common sense. Apparently I'm lacking in that department these days. First time he went he lit out of the chair like his butt was on fire. I got him excited about by celebrating with him and sharing a few "Yeah, did it's"

Each evening he has been getting more anxious about sitting on the potty and startled every time he went. The last 4 nights have been a disaster. He goes up willingly and seems to want to sit on the potty but cries as soon as he sits down and his poor little arms and legs tremble. My little guy is terrified of his potty chair. He has also associated getting up with the music that scares him so badly because he won't get off until I lift him off. We took the music making part out and still no go. Literally, he was going every night for about a week. He hasn't gone since the crying started last week. So I think we are going to take a break from the potty for now.

Wow - - I'm sure being a Mum is amazing and the pro's far outweigh the cons (if there are any) but I have to say, it sounds like A LOT of hard work. I'd rather get my M Ed than potty train children...

Ahhh. That is pretty scarey I suppose. lol. David had a potty that played music too but I guess by the time he started going on it he seemed to have played with it alot. lol. I didn't even think about showing them first. I couldn't get him to leave his alone until he started. lol. Oh well we live and learn. I had gotten one for Lizzy that did little flushing noises but that part broke. Nice. Oh well. Anyway have fun in that department. I know I will. She seems to be harder to train that David. Although it was just me and him then. Maybe that is why. Hmmmm.
Anyway have fun.
