Immersion Therapy

Trevor has been absolutely terrified by the firetruck, shown below, since he got it as a birthday gift. If it was in the doorway he would not walk through the doorway. He would walk around it with the widest berth possible. It makes a pretty low rumble type engine noise and apparently he doesn't like the noise it makes. Anytime we would try to get him to play with it he would run away screaming. Funny from the boy who adores anything with wheels. Grandma H brought him a tractor when she came to visit a long while back. The tractor makes almost the same sound. And he didn't like the tractor one bit either. So both toys have taken up residence on a high out of the way shelf. I was almost considering freecycling them.

I took these pictures a few weeks ago planning on doing a post about his fears. Well the other day Travis decided to try taking the batteries out to see if Trevor would play with it. Duh, why didn't we think of that before! We showed him over and over that it didn't make noise anymore but still no go. Travis played with it around him for several days. Showing him how fun it was. Trevor started getting closer and closer and then started touching it. After he learned that it wouldn't bite him he started cautiously spinning the tires. But he was crouched and ready to run at the slightest noise I'm sure.

Last night I came home from work and he was pushing it around and sitting on it. He really seems to enjoy it now. Now we just have to move on to conquering his fear of the tractor!
